The essay analyses the composition of Emilio Tadini’s first novel, Le armi l’amore (1963), its theoretical and stylistic genesis in the context of the experimental ferment of the late 1950s and early 1960s, especially within the «Quaderni milanesi», and the parallel contemporary trajectories of leading French writers such as Michel Butor and Claude Simon, within a general legacy of Faulkner’s late modernism and a common acute sensitivity to the interaction between visual phenomena and verbal practices.
